Democracy in Venezuela
Since 1999, repressive authoritarian regimes have devastated Venezuela’s once-thriving economy, suppressed opposition voices and democratic institutions and engaged in widespread human rights abuses, including tens of thousands of unlawful imprisonments and extrajudicial killings. Over the past decade, Nicolás Maduro’s economic policies and human rights atrocities have forced a UN-estimated 7.7 million Venezuelans from their homes, the largest refugee crisis in human history.
In July 2024, the People of Venezuela voted overwhelmingly to bring an end to the Maduro regime. Maduro has since steadfastly refused to leave office and has instead intensified his decade-long reign of terror.
The OUTSIDE AMERICA FOUNDATION supports the cause of freedom in Venezuela through fiscal sponsorship of Ya Casi Venezuela, a grassroots Venezuelan non-profit organization created in 2024. Ya Casi Venezuela, working for Venezuelans around the world and with the brave men and women of the political resistance, is a civil movement dedicated to the reconstruction of a free and democratic Venezuela. Contributions to the campaign are tax deductible and go directly to initiatives organized and directed by leaders of the Venezuelan resistance movement.
